Unique to this Project

  • Sustainability Focus: Part of this project was constructed to be displayed in the 2020 GROW OTAUTAHI festival. Unfortunately, due to Covid19 restrictions the festival could not go ahead but you can read about the exhibit here.
  • Water feature: We constructed a custom timber water feature with a pump for the children to explore and control.

Challenges

  • Moveable: The central large structure in this outdoor learning environment was designed to be moveable. This was to enable us to construct the project for the festival, and then move the structure to it’s new home at Halswell Quarry Preschool.
  • Child focused: This early learning environment was inspired by a shanty-town vibe and a shared love of nature. It needed to be relaxed and enjoyable for children to use how they wish, while still being eye-catching and aesthetically pleasing for parents.

Successes

  • Learning Environment: Children’s learning and development was the priority in this project. Te Whariki learning outcomes were at the forefront of this playground.
  • Point of Sale: This outdoor learning environment added to the business. It’s eye-catching playground is visible from the street and invites parents and children to come and explore the Preschool.
