Project Overview

The Natural Modern Landscape project reimagines the outdoor space of a Merivale home, creating a contemporary garden that feels both natural and expansive. Despite the site’s limited dimensions, the design maximizes every area, crafting distinct zones that are functional yet cohesive. The careful planning ensures that the garden feels open and harmonious, avoiding a cramped or cluttered appearance.

Corten steel sheets, laser-cut with leaf patterns, serve as striking sculptural features that tie the space together while complementing the natural surroundings. These elements add visual interest without overwhelming the compact site, demonstrating how thoughtful design can turn constraints into creative opportunities.

Every detail of the garden balances form and function, from the layout of the zones to the connections between indoor and outdoor areas. Large openings in the home allow for seamless interaction with the landscape, enhancing the sense of space. The project’s clever handling of a small site, combined with its material choices and overall aesthetic, earned it a GOLD award from Greenland Homes in the NZ Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards.
