Project Overview

Gill Landscapes Ltd was engaged by Southbase Construction Ltd to deliver the landscape construction works for the Main Block redevelopment at Christchurch Boys’ High School, a project that demanded precision, professionalism, and a deep understanding of what makes a school environment work for the people who use it every day.

Works spanned the full range of hard and soft landscaping across the school grounds. Over 430m² of concrete pavement was completed in two finishes, acid-washed and sealed with black oxide colouring, and exposed aggregate, alongside 715m² of asphalt pavement and a small area of decorative feature paving. Eight bespoke bench seats were fabricated and installed throughout the grounds, including a recladded bench in the Old Boys’ Courtyard, all finished with skate deterrents and graffiti guard. Handrailing and perforated steel plate metalwork completed the structural elements.

Soft landscaping covered over 1,000m² of garden beds, 112m² of hydroseeded lawn, and four new tree pits — bringing greenery and life back to the heart of the school. A full irrigation system was installed to support long-term establishment, backed by a 12-month maintenance programme to ensure every planted area thrived well beyond practical completion.
